Due to our move from Seattle to our new production place here in Gaylord Kansas, we stopped all our production for nearly half a year. Even being backordered on all of our other products, we though the
need to redesign the historic V78, the general purpose version of the historic V72, and modernize this classic design. We
moved a bit away from the classic design to final fill the request for a more modern and affordable mic pre for studios on
a budged, of course not being short on the classic V series sound at all...
When we started out nearly ten years ago our goal was to build an updated version of the classic
V72 design that can stand on its own, without being intimated next to a good working classic. Even our V72S is modernized
with several features, we decided not to change or compromise the circuit at all; with the V78M we went a few more modern
ways in audio design and build it around a set of V72S transformer . Of course it will stand its ground to a historic V78 but with a twist.
After we introduced the V71DI about two years ago, we received a more than positive feedback on our approach on PC board design, especially form hard core
point to point believers. For the V78M we decided to build it as an all PC board product. Biggest change parting from the
classic German way of audio design, we added an input sensitivity adjust some people call it an impedance selector, to give
the mic pre operator more flexibility for a wide range of applications in adding coloration and harmonics. This new feature
combined with our standard V72S 11 position gain control leave no wishes open in headroom, audible resolution or make up gain.
Our most notable feature we did not want to be cheap on is the ramped 48V phantom power sup. proven
for years on our V72S, that protects any historic output x-former and ribbon mic if switched by accident, aside from saving
the monitors a loud pop every time 48V is applied. Also we changed the the low cut filter from 80Hz up to 120Hz, a better
choice if used in studios with small tracking rooms. All packaged in a 19inch enclosure, same style we already use for our
V71DI and powered by a set of NOS made in Germany Telefunken tubes.
More details will follow soon.
