The Blackspade UM17 microphone was
built to a price point- what is the best LDC tube microphone that we can build that can still street for under $1000?
Folks who tried the UM17 could not believe how good it was for that price. But we also had producers and engineers asking
the question, if the UM17 is that good, how much better could it be for $2000? Well we at AMI and Blackspade have answered
that question! The UM17R takes the same basic platform of the UM17 to a new level of quality. The K17 capsule
is replaced by a Thiersch Elektroakustik STW 7 Red capsule, their Mylar diaphragm M7 style capsule that is the closest to the historic version available today. We’ve
replaced the power supply with one that is designed and made in the USA by AMI. The mic cable is upgraded
to one using Gotham GAC-7 cable with Switchcraft connectors. And finally, the shock mount is custom made
by Rycote in the UK for these microphones. The result is the UM17R- a high quality microphone that stands up to
the competition.
